Plein Air Painters

Purple and Yellow crocuses painted by 16 people

Plein Air is painting outdoors, in contrast to academic or studio painting, which takes place primarily indoors. It is based on observations, where atmosphere and lighting conditions are ever changing. Thirty years ago the original 4 “Road Drawers” drove throughout the region, stopping to draw/ paint when something interesting caught their eyes.

Today’s group is larger and is known as “The Plein Air Painters.” You may see us in each other’s yards, at Lake Argyle, in local farm fields or towns, at Horn Lodge, garden centers, etc. We enjoy the companionship as much as we do the drawings and paintings we take home.
