Second Tuesday Music on the Square

Catch the Pastor’s Disasters (featuring Aaron Winner, Ashlee, Avery, & Addison with Matt Haberman) for our last Second Tuesday Music on the Square event! Bring a blanket or some lawn chairs, (and all your friends) and spend the evening enjoying Central Park, and the Farmers Market complete with a soundtrack!

Ukulele Club

Ukulele Club is open to players of all skill levels and abilities, all you need to join in is a Ukulele! Meetings are lead by Christina Hardy on Wednesday evenings. Be sure to check dates listed below and watch the Facebook group for updates and schedule changes, or sign up for club reminder texts (info below)!

Rushville’s Story: 200 Years

Join The Hub and The Jail Museum on Smiles Day, Friday, September 11, right after the parade, as we open “Rushville’s Story: 200 Years” — a brand new exhibit celebrating our city’s bicentennial!
Step inside The Hub and explore two centuries of Rushville’s history, from its earliest days through today. It’s a look back at the people, places, and moments that made Rushville what it is.

The Hub is also putting together a time capsule to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence and Rushville’s 200th Anniversary. We will be accepting small items and written works for consideration at the Hub during normal business hours until Smiles Day when we will host a “Sealing Ceremony” in conjunction with the opening of our Rushville 200 History Exhibition. Photo Club | “Nature”

Photo Club is a space where local photographers of all skill levels can meet on a monthly basis to share work, learn new skills, and inspire each other to get out and take more photos! You do not need to have participated in previous meetings or have photos submitted for the review in order to participate. All you need to do is show up and be excited to talk about photography!
If you would like to submit photos for review please email xochi@thehubart.com for information on the current prompt and submission guidelines.
This is a free club, but a donation of $5 is appreciated if possible!

Comic Book Culture & Illinois

A living history with Dr. Stephen Harrick

Illinois has consistently served as a touchstone for the history of comic strips and books: creators have lived here, publishers have set up shop here, and important events have occurred here. While Chicagoland has inspired memorable characters (Dick Tracy, Blondie, and Brenda Starr), downstate has made lasting contributions to the culture as well (Popeye, Black Panther, and The Phantom).

This presentation traces the many ways that Illinois and comics have formed a symbiotic relationship: politics, labor, law and order, education, architecture, and identity. Through contextualizing how comics culture has responded to these aspects of Illinois history, this program will demonstrate a complex unity between the two. From Hollywood to Broadway, the Mafia to Congress, and a future King of England, Illinois has shaped an entire industry. This, in turn, has nurtured a rich and vibrant comics community, thereby reinforcing the important relationship between Illinois history and comics culture.

Spin Art at the Farmers Market

The Hub has partnering with the Rushville Chamber of Commerce and the Farmers Market to offer free crafts during the fourth Tuesday market of each month.
For our final market craft of the year, we will have a table set up where market-goers of all ages can make their own spin art paintings!
We will also have sidewalk chalk available for drawing as well.
*Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.*

Create & Connect | Felt Portraits

Join us in making felt portraits with us! We’ll provide all materials, and help you create your own custom felt portrait! If you’d like, bring a photo of your house, pet, etc. to work off of.

Create & Connect is a collaborative program between the Hub, and licensed social worker, Alex Chiatello. The group provides free opportunities for creative expression and fosters open dialogue around mental health.

This program is open to participants ages 12 and up. *Children must be accompanied and supervised by a registered adult.*

Art Cafe for Teens

The Hub is hosting a free art cafe for high school students, take advantage of an early dismissal, and spend the afternoon creating, and connecting with friends! You can choose from activties like linocut block printing, bedazzling or disco tiling (feel free to bring your own small item to decorate), customized magnetic poetry kits, or collaborative artwork. We will be providing a pizza lunch (also free) while supplies last.
