Familiar Figures | Opening Reception

Join us for an evening celebrating the opening of Familiar Figures, an exhibition of paintings by Macomb artist Janice Rockwell, and stay for her artist talk at 6:00!
Rockwell’s paintings begin with something deeply personal: black-and-white family photos from her own childhood and recent snapshots of her grandchildren. Through layers of color, texture, and palette knife work, she transforms these quiet images into vibrant expressions of love, memory, and connection across generations.
This exhibit is sponsored by Carolyn Wright – State Farm and Ciara Icenogle – Country Financial
Date & Time | Friday, May 15th, at 5 – 7 p.m., Artists talk at 6 p.m.

Location | The Hub, 210 N. Congress St., Rushville Il. 62681

Community Conversations | History Belongs to All of Us

Join us for the next session of Community Conversations: History Belongs to All of Us, a free, facilitated program series brought to you by The Hub – Arts & Cultural Center in partnership with Illinois Humanities! In this series we’ll be exploring local history through facilitated conversations and humanities-driven activities that center curiosity and active listening, encourage fresh perspectives, and highlight the wealth that comes from remaining connected to one another.

The War of 1812 had a dramatic impact on Illinois Territory, especially for those who migrated into the territory afterward and for those Native communities who were forced to migrate away from it.
In this Community Conversation we will discuss that impact using two documents to help provide context, a United States-issued land grant and a first-hand account from a Native American living in Illinois territory at the time. The Nicholas Welch land grant is believed to include a tract of land located in present-day Schuyler County, so this conversation holds specific relevance to the history of our community. In this session, we hope to explore the many meanings we attach to land and how those meanings echo today.

Bring your curiosity, and your appetite, because The Bread Basket is bringing the snacks!

This event is free and open to the public, recommended for participants high school age and up.

Facilitators | Moe Billingsley & Xochi Anderson

Date & Time | Sunday, May 31st, from 2 – 4 p.m.

Location | The Schuyler Jail Museum, 200 N. Congress St., Rushville Il., 62681
