Black Out Poetry Open Studio

April is National Poetry Month! Experiment with method of ‘found poetry’ using damaged books and old magazines. This method is very intuitive and perfect for anyone who is interested in poetry composition, but unsure where to start.
Beginner friendly!

Cards & Conversations

Cards & Conversation is a free event held once a month at the Hub. Instructors will have materials prepared and help participants to create their own greeting cards!

Thanks to the generosity of local community members we are able to offer this class for free, we just ask that you register so we know how many material sets to prepare!

Create & Connect | Coping Kits

The Hub is partnering with Schuyler County Mental Health Association to create a series of free activities for adults who want to socialize in a creative environment.

In this months event we will be making Coping Kits! Coping Kits are toolboxes packed with items that can help you to process overwhelming emotions. In this event we will help you to decorate your coping kit, provide a variety of items which can be helpful in regulating emotions to get your kit started and discuss helpful tips for managing your emotional wellness.

Coppersmithing | Ladles & Coffee Scoops 

Experience the Joy of Working with Copper! 

Copper is a relatively soft and easy to shape metal. It’s natural reddish-brown color and the way it patinas over time can add a unique and beautiful aesthetic to any project. Experiment with copper by making either a coffee scoop or ladle, depending on your ticket type, under the guidance of instructor Bruce Helmreich.

Class covers:
Forming the copper disc into a bowl shape.
Texturing and polishing the surface of the ladle/scoop.
Attachment of copper bowl to handle using rivets.

Each participant will receive a kit with a copper round, rivets and a hand-forged steel handle.

May Flower Cupcake Decorating (BYOC)

Instructor Julia Vincent will walk you through the process of decorating your own cupcakes with May flower designs using Russian piping tips!

Please note that you will need to bring a dozen cupcakes to the class, all other supplies will be provided. (One box of cake mix will make 24 cupcakes, so you can share the other half and bring a friend!)

Refillable Sketchbooks

In this program we will be making our own sketchbooks* with binder ring bindings making them endlessly refillable and customizable.

*These books can be used for a variety of things, including sketchbooks, photo albums, recipe books, and journals to name a few.

Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.” – mentalhealthfirstaid.org

Recently we have been spending time considering the relationship between our values as an organization and mental health. We believe that in order for us to make the positive impact we strive for on our community we need to acknowledge the role that mental health and wellness plays in all of our lives every day and we would like to invite you to join us on this journey of growth and education.

Please note that this training includes an online self paced portion (must be completed first, approx. 2 hrs) which will be shared with participants approximately 2 weeks before the training.
